Drain and sewer cleaning

Hydro Jetting in Ogden, Utah

High-pressure water that scours the pipe wall back to full diameter, rather than boring a hole through whatever is coating it.

When this is the answer

01

The same drain clears then returns within weeks

The pipe wall is still coated. A cable made an opening through it, which closes again.

02

A kitchen line that has slowed over years

Grease film built up on the wall. Jetting takes it off, cabling goes through it.

03

Multiple slow drains sharing one run

Build-up along a shared horizontal line rather than a discrete blockage.

04

A line that has been cabled three or more times

At that point the cause has never been addressed, only the symptom.

Drains and sewers only

Not a plumbing company with a drain page. This is the whole job.

A camera on recurring calls

If a drain has backed up before, guessing at it twice is not a plan.

What jetting actually does

A jetter puts water through a nozzle at pressure and pulls it back along the pipe. The water cuts grease and sludge off the wall and carries it out, which leaves the line at close to its original diameter rather than with a channel bored through the middle of whatever was coating it.

That difference is why a jetted line tends to stay clear longer than a cabled one. A cable makes an opening. A jetter removes the reason the opening was needed.

When it is the right call

Jetting suits grease, soap film, sludge and soft build-up. Kitchen lines are the classic case: years of warm grease going down and cooling on the pipe wall until the bore is a fraction of what it should be.

It also suits lines that have been cabled repeatedly. If a drain has been opened three times and keeps returning, the coating was never the thing being removed.

When it is the wrong call

Jetting is not right for a pipe that is already cracked, separated or badly deteriorated. Pressure in a compromised line can make a bad situation worse, and no amount of cleaning fixes a structural fault.

This is the practical reason we look before we jet. The camera tells us whether the pipe can take it. If it cannot, jetting is not what we will recommend, and we will show you why.

Roots are a different problem

A jetter with a cutting head will clear roots out of a line, and that is often the fastest way to get flow back. What it does not do is close the joint the roots came through.

Roots do not enter sound pipe. They find a crack or a failed joint that is already letting moisture out. Clearing them buys time, which is sometimes exactly what is wanted, but it is worth knowing that is what you are buying.

What it costs and what moves the price

Length of line, how far the build-up has gone, and access. A short kitchen branch and a full lateral out to the main are different jobs by a wide margin. Where a property has no usable cleanout, gaining access becomes part of the job and is the variable most likely to move a quote.

How we decide before quoting

On anything that has failed before, the camera goes in first. That is not an upsell, it is what tells us whether jetting is appropriate at all. On a first-time blockage in a modern line we will often say a cable is enough and leave it there.

What you are left with

A line at close to its original diameter, and on a recurring problem a second camera pass so you can see the wall rather than take our word for it. If the pipe turns out to have a fault we could not address, you will hear that too.

Look first. Then clear it.

Most drain calls run the same four steps. The order matters: everything we recommend comes after we have seen the line, not before.

  1. 01

    Ask

What is the drain doing, which fixtures are affected, how old is the house, has it happened before. Five minutes on the phone usually narrows it to two possibilities.

You get a straight answer about whether this needs a visit.

  2. 02

    Look

On anything recurring, the camera goes in before the cable does. We find where the restriction is and what is causing it.

You watch the same screen we do.

  3. 03

    Clear

Cable, jetter or descaler, chosen for what we actually found. Grease gets cut out, not punched through.

The line is open, and the cause is gone with it.

  4. 04

    Show

A second camera pass after the work, so you can see the pipe you are left with, including when the answer is that nothing is wrong with it.

You know the condition of your line, not just that the water moved.

What the camera actually shows

You watch the same screen we do. These are the three things we find most often behind a drain that will not stay clear.

Root intrusion. Roots at a clay joint. Common under mature trees on Ogden's older streets.

Mineral scale. Cast iron closed down by hard water scale. Regularly mistaken for a clog.

Questions we get asked

Will jetting damage my pipes?

Not a sound pipe. It can make things worse in a line that is already cracked or separated, which is exactly why we look first and will decline to jet a pipe that should not be jetted.

How long does jetting last?

That depends on what put the build-up there. A kitchen line that gets grease every day will build up again eventually, though from a clean wall rather than from a partly closed one.

Is it noisy or messy?

The machine is loud while it runs. The work itself is contained at the access point, and we clean up after.

Do I need jetting or just a cable?

If the drain has blocked once and never before, a cable is usually enough. If it keeps returning, cabling is treating the symptom.

Can you jet a line with roots in it?

Yes, with a cutting head. It will clear them. It will not close the joint they came through, and that joint is the actual problem.

Not sure if this is what you have?

Tell us what the drain is doing. We will tell you what usually causes that pattern before you commit to anything.

What is the drain doing?

What is the drain doing?

Worth saying up front. If the pipe turns out to be healthy, we will tell you that. We do not turn a drain cleaning call into a sewer replacement pitch.

What we do when the pipe is fine

No fault found

Sometimes the camera goes down a line that has backed up three times and finds nothing wrong with the pipe. Grease, or roots at one joint, or a fixture that was never vented properly. The pipe itself is sound.

When that happens we clean it properly, tell you what caused it, and leave. That is the whole visit. A recurring clog is not evidence that a sewer needs replacing, and we are not going to say it is.

Tell us what the drain is doing

Describe the symptom and we will tell you what usually causes it. If it needs a look, we will come and look.

No call-out pressure and no sewer replacement pitch. If cleaning is the fix, cleaning is what we quote.
